When will my family research start?

As soon as you agree on the package and at least the £30.00 non-returnable deposit has been paid you will be given a search start date.

How soon will the search be completed?

Straightforward single family line searches are normally completed within eight hours with more complicated searches taking more time. As soon as I have collated and checked the search data you will be notified. Under normal circumstances this should be within seven working days of the search start date.

What happens after my research has been completed?

If you have previously paid the £30.00 non-returnable deposit the £90.00 balance is due before your search results are emailed to you. If the full fee of £120.00 has already been paid the detailed search report will be emailed to you on its completion.

In what form are the search results presented?

Family tree search results are presented as typed reports in Adobe PDF file format. To view/download an example report please click here.

In addition to the free Adobe PDF report file, at additional cost, you can now choose to have your family tree presented in a 3D page turning ebook.

How far back can my Scottish family line be traced?

Using official records held at New Register House, Edinburgh, it's possible to trace
most Scottish families back to the mid-to-early 1800s. However, there are exceptions
to this; e.g. your ancestors may have been immigrants. Some local parish records
go back further and could possibly take your family tree back to a much earlier time.
However, it's best to restrict the initial search to the 1800s date. Later, if requested,
I can advise you whether it would be practicable, or cost effective, to search further back in time using local parish records, etc.

Where is my family research carried out?

At New Register House Edinburgh. Official records include; birth, marriage and death certificates, census returns and old parish records. These documents can reveal an enormous amount of interesting, and at times unexpected information about your Scottish ancestors.

  When do I pay?

After a start date has been agreed you can either pay the £30.00 non-returnable deposit with the £90.00 balance due on completion of your family search, or you can opt to pay the full £120.00 fee before the work starts. Please note: Your research will not begin until at least the £30.00 non-returnable deposit has been paid.
